Turned the key and the the hazards turned on. Engine however, did not. Hmm

Apparently I tripped the alarm system somehow. So the car wouldn’t start, and the hazards wouldn’t turn off. #volvolyfe

A q uick google search told me that I just needed to lock and unlock the doors again. Boom, fixed. That’s one thing I love. While there are a lot of little things that go wrong, if I search up symptoms, I get the exact problem and how to fix it. It’s not like I’m given 10 possibilities and I have to go from there. Nope. Every single Volvo issue has been incredibly easy to pinpoint. So, sure, the Miata never really breaks... But when something goes wrong, there are usually a million different culprits and it ends up taking longer to fix the issue, despite being a much simpler platform.

Oh and bonus V70 T5. I really need a spoiler, and I think a darker tint, too. Last picture is my 850 for comparison.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Or maybe I should just get a V70 to compliment the 850 wagon

I can  definitely second the need of a spoiler on this car.

I do think the spoiler makes a surprising difference in the appearance.

That’s almost as fun as the time I caught a sleeve on the emergency release for the Porsche’s frunk and pulled it. And then it wouldn’t latch.

The solution?

Turn the key to the on position, pull frunk release, close frunk.

If only there was a way to combine German complexity with Swedish unorthodoxy.

I sometimes think every single thing in this car was designed the way it was just to be contrarian, to hell with somewhat universally accepted standards!

German complexity with Swedish unorthodoxy?

So you’re saying we need to find a V70 to shove a flat 6 in the middle of, in order to serve as the parts runner for a twincharged Porsche?

I have a running 1998 V70 T5 Manual  that I am happy to sell you for, say $500. I barely ever drive it. It would be fun to see it go to an other enthusiast. It is in the Bay Area.

I think you need rally lights on the volvo. It’d look so awesome.

Kinja'd!!!

Or....this exists, you could make a version of that.

Do you have any photos, or a bit more info? I don’t need another car, or have the space for one, but....

If I end up in California for work/pleasure and it's still available there's no way I'd be able to turn it down, assuming it would make the drive up to Seattle!

WANT. There was an insanely rare awd, manual, turbo wagon of my volvo’s generation for sale in your area recently that had rally lights and a roof rack. Absolutely mint, something like 40,000 miles. I still dream about it

I regret getting square pod lights. Just didn't fit well with the Miata, or the Volvo

Yup - I think I linked to this a while ago on one of your other posts. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=84902

I haven’t posted it to Craigslist/similar, because answering scammy Craigslist emails would eat into my time do do more valuable activities such as reading Jalopnik. ;)

And, I am at a stage in life where I don’t really care about freeing up a few hundred bucks by selling it.

In terms of road tripping, one of my friends drove it to San Luis Obispo (a 3-4hr drive), and I was expecting this to result in some sort of David Tracy / Roadkill stories, but it actually went fine and nothing broke. Mostly kidding about expecting it to do roadkill stuff ... it was my daily driver for a while, and as I recall it started every time.

Oh man. It’s even blue. I’m, uh... Looking at plane tickets. If you’re serious, I’m very interested. Not too familiar with the area, would San Francisco be the best place to fly into?

It is parked at my office in Mountain View, CA, which is in between SFO and SJC airports.

Feel free to email me at fiandola@gmail.com to discuss further.

You are lucky. W hen this happened on my first 850 I couldn’t find any information online or in the H aynes manual that worked (sans jumping the pins) . I had to push start it for a couple weeks til it decided to crank again. Never had the same issue with my 96 sportswagon or 96 850r.

Huh, I like your tastes. Are you still in the Volvo family?

For $500 I’d buy that right now. I’ve been looking for a manual turbo Volvo wagon. @AestheticsInMotion better buy it. If not  I’m in the South Bay.

You know I actually find that the issue with researching miata problems is that the issues are often so minor and so simple to fix that its just assumed that you know how to fix it. So the forums end up being completely unhelpful whereas it really takes 5 minutes to solve if you know what you are doing. But learning what to do takes hours on your own sometimes. A lot of the times its just too much information and google doesnt properly sort through it for you. Thankfully stuff doesnt break often enough to really be an issue. And even more rare is something breaking that strands you somewhere.
